Outrage ensues as Grammy plays Fela Kuti's 'Water' during the announcement of Tyla's 'Water' as the winner


On the 66th version of the Grammy Awards, the organizers confronted criticism as they performed the late Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s monitor ‘Water’ whereas saying South African singer, Tyla’s ‘Water’ because the winner of the primary Greatest African Music Efficiency class.

On Sunday, the Recording Academy declared Tyla’s ‘Water’ because the recipient of the first-ever Greatest African Music Efficiency award.

Tyla received the class after surpassing tracks by Nigerian artists resembling Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘Metropolis Boys,’ and Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush.’

Nonetheless, to the shock of many, following the announcement, Fela’s timeless traditional, ‘Water No Get Enemy,’ was performed as an alternative of Tyla’s sexually-themed mid-tempo monitor.

This blunder triggered reactions from followers and music critics, significantly in Nigeria, with many criticizing the Recording Academy for the “foolish mistake.”
