‘Rap 4 Peace’ to Honor Chuck D and Hip Hop 4 Peace’s Tina Marie Tyler

Public Enemy co-founder Chuck D and Hip Hop 4 Peace founder Tina Marie Tyler are among the many honorees for the upcoming Rap 4 Peace: A Hip-Hop Gun Violence Consciousness Convention & Gala. The occasion can be held on Nationwide Gun Violence Consciousness Day (June 2) at Shutters on the Seashore in Santa Monica, Calif. 

For his or her volunteerism and peacebuilding contributions, the night’s honorees will obtain the President’s Volunteer Service Award for lifetime achievement. Hip Hop 4 Peace (HH4Peace) is launching the convention and gala in partnership with the UNESCO Heart for Peace and the USA Federation of UNESCO Golf equipment, Facilities and Associations. 

In feedback given to Billboard, Tyler says partially, “The racial disparity in gun homicides has plagued Black and Hispanic communities for many years, Change begins with dialogue to raised determine the causes of gun violence and the way we as a group can effectuate significant change. This award is really humbling as many of us are doing superb issues in communities throughout America. This convention will look at the difficulty of trauma as an underlying explanation for gun violence in Black, Hispanic and susceptible communities. Hip-hop was born from historic and systemic trauma and serves as each a mechanism for therapeutic and a catalyst for change. Peace is the muse of hip-hop tradition.”

Echoing Tyler’s sentiments, Chuck D tells Billboard, “I’m simply considered one of many individuals on this motion and all of them needs to be acknowledged for his or her contributions.
